4 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Your Home!

Happy Wednesday friends! As life changes come along and I begin to look for apartments to live on my own, I realize how important it is to fully embrace the space you're in. Having a home that is your happy place and safes pace is so important.

I have compiled a short list of 4 things I've learned from my Momma about how to get the most out of your home.

Spontaneous Miscellaneous

Happy Wednesday friends! I am so excited to share some of my favorite recent finds with y'all. I am sharing some awesome Amazon finds, recent favorite shows, etc...

I first wanted to share a small life update. This semester I started my student teaching and it has been so wonderful so far. I love my supervising teacher and the students we work with.

About two weeks ago, I was laid off from my job teaching English online to Chinese students. The Chinese government now requires anyone who teaches English for a Chinese company to hold a bachelors degree. Since I am still a semester away from graduating, I was cut. I was gutted and couldn't believe it. I also experienced a lot of stress and anxiety because it threw off my plans for the future.

I am very thankful however, that I have been able to find a job as a substitute teacher in the county I intern in. God is so faithful and has better plans than I do, so even though I am taking a large pay cut, I know He is so good.

I know this time is very uncertain and stressful for a lot of people so I just want to encourage you to bring your anxieties to God. He is not shocked by what is going on and can provide comfort and peace during very unpeaceful times.

Now... Let's dive right in to some recent favorites!

My Experience Teaching Online with QKids

Happy Monday everyone! I am so excited to be writing to you all about my job with QKids. I get to teach adorable Chinese kids English every day and it is truly such a fun job. I know many people have a lot of questions when I tell them what I do, so I thought I would write an entire post with information for you.
I want to start out by saying that this will initially look like a lot of information, but it becomes less overwhelming I promise, ha! I want to cover some basics and then you can feel free to ask me any questions.

15 Things to do in Quarantine!

Happy Thursday everyone! I hope you are all safe and healthy during this weird time with the Coronavirus spreading like crazy. It is so crucial that we all stay home right now because symptoms sometimes don't show for up to 14 days.
I know some people are not used to being home for such an extended period of time so I thought it would be fun if I compiled a list of things to do while at home. I hope you get some ideas and have some fun during this time.

How to Get Lilly Pulitzer for Less

Happy Monday everyone! I am so excited to for today's blog post because there is truly nothing I love wearing more than Lilly Pulitzer. The bright colors and classic styles give me such confidence and make me so happy. Living in Florida, I have ample opportunity to wear their tropical styles.
The only downside to this beautiful, resort wear brand is... the price. Ugh. Who has $200 dollars to spend on one top? No worries y'all!! Today's blog post is all about how to get Lilly Pulitzer for less money. Over the last year, I have found several different ways to score Lilly at a discounted price and I can't wait to share with you.

I am a planner and organized freak and nothing ever gets done if I don't have it written down. Therefore, I thought it would be good to write down my 2020 goals so that it keeps me accountable. At the end of this post, I will revisit my 2019 resolutions as well.

The Pro's & Con's of Visisting NYC

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am so late writing this post but life has been crazy! I started my second summer class and have been having to do service learning hours. Plus, the busy summer season of my job is beginning so the early mornings and late nights are about to begin too.
In my NYC Trip Recap post, I said that there were many things about NYC that I wasn't warned about and would have liked to know before I went. That is what this post is about. I wanted to share an honest pro's and con's list of visiting the big apple. If you do visit soon, these are some things to expect and keep in mind.

My Favorite Devotionals

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you are having a great start to the week. My summer classes started today and although I could have used at least one or two more weeks of summer break, I am excited for what's to come. I love the classes I'm taking this summer and do love having a more routine schedule. I will still find time to lay by the pool though, don't you worry.
With my day's now being more busy, I am having to really find time to have a daily devotion and quiet time with God. This is so important and I'm not perfect at it, but try my hardest day by day.

If you haven't read this blog post, where I discuss what a daily devotion is and how I have one, you should read it here. Today, I am sharing devotional books that I love!

Sophomore Year Ending + What is Next For Me

Happy Monday y'all. It is a happy Monday indeed, because I took my last final today of my sophomore year and completed my A.A. Degree!
This is such an exciting time as I make the transfer from the state school I was at for two years to The University of Central Florida! I have grown up about 5 minutes from the second largest university and am thrilled to finally be a student.

Current Devotional Routine

Happy Monday everyone! I love MLK Day because it gives us a chance to reflect on history and how far we've come, along with how far we still have to go.

I am so excited to share this post because these types of posts are always so motivating for me to read. I get such great ideas for my personal devotion, by seeing what others do for their daily devotion.

If you haven't seen my blog post, How To Have a Daily Devotion, you might want to start there. If you are unfamiliar with what to do or where to start, read that post first.

Now let's get into what I am doing these days, when I spend some personal time with the Lord.

2018 for Juliana Grace & My New Years Resolutions

Happy 2019! That is going to feel so weird for so long. I always feel like the odd numbered years take longer to adjust too. Is that just me?
I love writing these posts, for myself to look back on as a form of digital scrapbook. Every year I enjoy sharing my favorite memories, outfits, movies, and books from the year. I also included my word of the year and New Years Resolutions. Let's dive it!

How to Pick a Book / Find Reccomendations

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am very excited about today's blog post. The most asked question I get regarding books from those I know is, "How do you find books you like?" or "How do find out about these good books?". Well today is your lucky day, because I am spilling all my secrets! There are several easy ways I go about finding a good book and I am going to share them all with you!
Now be warned, there is no full proof method to finding a good book. There will be times when you are extremely excited about a book and it just plain sucks. In that case, quit reading it. There is nothing wrong with moving on to a better book if you aren't liking the current book you have.

What I Have Learned in 2018

Happy Monday y'all. I am officially on Christmas break, and it feels SO good! This year has been full of a little good and a little bad and it sure has taught me a lot. I thought it would be nice, to write down what this year has taught me, so I can look back on it down the road.

3 Places to Donate to This Christmas

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. I am SO excited to have received the news that ESPN College Gameday, the pre game show is coming to my school, UCF! I will be going this Saturday with a big sign in hopes of seeing Lee Corso pick UCF for the win and get TV time. (:

As Christmas time approaches it is easy to get caught up in all that you "want" and how to decorate and what to find for all your Christmas parties, but we can't forget that this is the season of giving. This is a great time to give and donate to important charities and foundations. It is overwhelming to know where to start and so I compiled a list of well respected Christian charities that make a huge difference. Even a small donation can be a huge help!

Five Things I Learned From My Momma!

It's Wednesday everyone, which means we are half way through this crazy week! At least it is crazy for me. This Sunday is Mother's Day and I can't wait to celebrate my Momma and the sweet lady who raised her.

I will be honest and say I sometimes fret about not being a good mother one day, because the women in my family have set the bar so freakin' high. I will always live close so they can help me! :)

I thought it would be fun to share five things that my momma has taught me in life, even though there are far more!
1. You can love your family, and like your family.

We are family people around here. My mom has never felt the need to "get away" or go for a "girls weekend" because she genuinely likes us, not just loves us. She has always been a great friend to those she meets, but prefers to spend time with us, even though she sees us all the time. She has taught me that life is WAY more fun and enjoyable when you like your family and invest in relationships beyond what you are obligated to do as a family member. She's my BESTIE!

2. Don't take anything too seriously.

Oh my word. My mom is a laugher. I don't know if that is an actual word but it describes my mom to a tee. She laughs about everything with the most contagious laugh. She has taught me to never stay in a bad mood. Obviously my mom and I have butted heads before, but never for more than like 2 seconds, before she starts making fun of me and dying laughing. I would always be so mad, because I couldn't help from laughing too. Whenever someone in my family is having a bad day or is in a foul mood, she somehow finds a way to brighten our day and make us giggle!

3. A relationship with God is built day by day.

One thing that I don't think I noticed that I really admired about my mom is that she is so consistent with her daily devotions. She has one chair she sits in every morning, and opens the same binder of prayer requests before working her way through the Bible. She is flat-out dedicated to that relationship, and it shows through her relationships with others.

4. A little work on the front end, makes life so much easier in the long run.

This is a loaded statement that applies to almost everything my mom does. When it came to disciplining us as kids, she never gave in to our begging just to make us shut up for the five seconds in the grocery store. Were we screaming, getting stared at and on her nerves? Yes. But she would stick it out, and would tell you that not letting us get that candy or balloon when crying that one time, made us behave so much better the rest of the trips to the grocery store. Do you get where I am going?
This also applies to organizing and cleaning. I still haven't quite caught on to her whole clean freak nature, as much as I wish I could, but I admire it. It isn't that she can't enjoy her day or let people make a mess, it's just that it has to be cleaned up and organized before she hits the pillow at night. Sometimes I think she is crazy, because I go to bed every night with my room a wreck, but the difference is, is that I wake up to a mess while she wakes up to a fresh start.
Are you catching my drift? My mom is a hard worker and (like me), loves to have a plan. But I think that having our lives organized, has made living it so much more enjoyable.
I love having a mom who works hard on the little things, so that in the big picture, we can have fun without any stress.

5. You can never be too matchy-matcy, and leggings are NEVER pants

I always tell my mother that "I would be nothing without her" but I don't really refer to it when talking about my personality, friends, life, etc.. Nope. I say that, in reference to my style.. LOL! I am 19 years-old and I still ask my mom to come with me each time I go clothes shopping. She is a preppy lady with classy southern style, and I would be nothing without her! :) haha!

So there you have it. I don't know why, but I feel like crying. I just love my mom so stinkin' much and hope you squeeze your momma a little extra this coming Sunday! I will talk to you on Friday!

7 Picture Books on Autism and Acceptance

Happy Thursday everyone! As the month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month, comes to an end (whaaaat??), I thought it would be fitting to share my 7 favorite picture books on the subject. Even though April is coming to an end, it is always a great idea to share with your kids/ class about what autism is and how we should treat people who are different than us.

As a special education major, I notice a lot of kids in general ed classes who don't know how to approach kids with autism, or don't know why they are acting the way they are. Picture books are a great way to introduce the conversation and shift this dynamic. If you as a teacher or parent don't explicitly teach your kid how to treat others, society will!

I love this book and how it shows that anyone can have a friend like Simon, who has autism. The images are really cute and touch on the characteristics of autism and how it's okay to be different. Kate Gaynor has written some other great books about other exceptionalities including dyslexia, hearing difficulties, etc.. If you are a teacher or parent, you need her books!

This is a really sweet and short rhyming story about a grandmother explaining what autism is, to her autistic grandson. This is a book that I feel is great for all kinds of students to read or hear, including those with autism.

This is a book similar to the first one I mentioned. I don't think you could ever have enough books promoting positive relationships with kids who have autism. This book is a win for me!

This is a sweet book on not necessarily autism but disability as a whole. This is a great way to show your kids that you shouldn't assume something about someone just because they have a disability. LOVE!

Julia Cook is one of my favorite children's book authors. She has great life skills books that special education teachers love. This one however is about Autism and does a great job at introducing autism and how to treat kids that are different. Instead of viewing their differences as negative, this book views them as gifts, and I love that! Julia Cook is great!!

All My Stripes by: Shaina Rudolph
This one has to be one of my personal favorites. This is the sweetest story about a Zebra with autism and how he feels that his "autism stripe" is the only stripe anyone ever sees. This is great to show kids that autism isn't the only thing that defines them.

Where Oliver Fits by: Cale Atkinson
This is a sweet book about a puzzle piece that tries it's hardest to fit in everywhere it goes but it just can't find where it fits. This is not a story necessarily about autism specifically but I think it is a great book to share with students who might feel really different or like they don't fit in.

There you have seven great books you NEED in your home or classroom. I would love to hear more about your favorite books for your class! Have a great weekend!

Florida School Shooting

Hi everyone. I am sorry for the absence on my blog and social media since Wednesday. As you can imagine, myself, like many others, were deeply distraught at the news of the 17 high school students shot and killed by a former student in a Parkland Florida Public School. As a future teacher and someone who values the privilege we have to acquire an education in what should be a safe environment, I was very sad to see the videos and articles of students recalling the events of the horrific day.

Regardless of if you want to blame this tragedy on mental health or gun control, and regardless of which side of the political isle you fall, we can agree there needs to be a change. 18 school shootings in 24 days is NOT okay. Do we need to get strict on gun control? Do we need to be better about recognizing mental health concerns? Does the media need to stop portraying violent acts in video games and TV shows that desensitize people and lower our value of human life? Maybe a great start would be the FBI taking tips about individuals with potential to do this harm seriously.

I don't know the exact answer but if doing one or all of those things would keep SEVENTEEN innocent children from being killed, don't you think it is worth considering. Take your political values out of it and throw away your pride people, we need a change.

I love the way Megyn Kelly on the TODAY show spoke about the shooting.

More than anything, this country needs love. The greatest love I have ever known is the love of Jesus. Prayer results in change. Don't say you will pray. PRAY.

I will resume with regular blog posts next week but I wanted those of you who maybe haven't researched this event or seen much news coverage to get a real sense of what these victims are experiencing and spend time in prayer for them and their families.

God Bless

5 Ways to Get Books for Cheap

Happy Wednesday everyone! I am very excited for this post because so many of you answered my poll on Instagram stories that you wanted to know how I get so many books both for myself to read and for the classroom for cheap.

I am a total book nerd and never regret spending money on books. I do however only work a part time job and am in college so I don't have unlimited funds to spend on anything, including books. I am also studying Special Education and am working on collecting picture books for my classroom. I consider myself a pro now at getting books for a good price!

I posted this photo on Instagram stories over the weekend and many of y'all wanted to know how I got so many picture books for so cheap! I have 5 tips to share.

I talk about this to everyone because it really is worth the $25 a year. With a membership you save 10% on every purchase and 40% off bestselling hardcover books. You also get free shipping on EVERY purchase online. The best part I have found however, is the coupons they send to you via email. It is crazy how what feels like every week I am getting awesome coupons like, 25% off one item, or $10 off a $30 purchase, etc.. Those coupons, plus the discount is just too good. Totally worth it!

I love this sight!! This is a website that has used books for sometimes only a few dollars and offers free shipping on any order over 10$ which is easy to do. I have gotten several picture books for $3 on this site in great condition when they were selling for $17 at a regular book store. This site is a gem!

3. Used Book Stores
Each of you will have to search and find the used book stores near you. Those of you who also live in the Central Florida area should make a trip to Bright Light Books in Casselberry. This place is organized and easy to find books in. I bring every book in after I read it, get store credit, and then use that store credit to often times get more books without having to pay a dime, not that anything there is very expensive anyways. I can find brand new YA Fiction books for $5 and brand new picture books for $3 both in brand new condition. There is also a Bright Light Overstock Warehouse that is also stocked full of books for usually $1. Again, if you don't live in the Central Florida area, look for used book stores near you and you will thank me! :)

4. Library Sales
I know different counties have different sales with their libraries but the library near me (also in Casselberry) has a store in the library where you can buy books for $.50 or $1. They were doing a 50% off sale this past weekend so I got a TON of children's books for $.25. Isn't that CRAZY?! Check your local library and keep an eye peeled for sales they have on books there also!

5. Garage Sales & Goodwill
Taking a look around garage sales or your local Goodwill can sometimes be a hit or miss but are both good ways to get books for CHEAP!!!

There you have it! A variety of ways to save money on books! Happy reading friends!

xoxo
