April & May 2021 Reading Recap & Recommendations

It's the weekend! I have been itching to tell you all about the books I read in April and May. I have already read some great books this month, but that will be a whole other blog post.

Let's dive in to my previous two months reads shall we?

Paris for One and Other Stories by: Jojo Moyes

This book is about a young woman who decides to take a romantic getaway with her boyfriend to Paris, but when he doesn't show up, she is forced to explore Paris on her own.

I love the storyline of a young woman finding herself through travel, and I love Paris. Therefore, it is no shocker that I really liked this book. It was a quick read, but it was enjoyable along with the short stories at the end as well. It wasn't the most amazing or memorable book ever but it made for a nice pool-side read.

An Unwanted Guest by: Shari Lapena

This Agatha Christie type mystery thriller takes place in a secluded hotel perfect for a winter getaway. Several guests enjoying the hotel are snowed in from a storm when one of the guests is found dead. One of the guests is a killer and if they don't find out who it is, another guest may be the next victim.

This was a classic Who-Done-It novel and it was done perfectly! I didn't see the ending coming and I was hanging on every word. I really like this one and recommend if you love a good murder mystery.

The Ex Talk by: Rachel Lynn Solomon

This story is about a single woman living in Chicago dedicating her life to her job in public radio while plotting to destroy her nemesis, a new man at work whom she feels is her competition. When she suddenly has to host a show with him however, posing as his ex-girlfriend, she realizes there is a lot she doesn't know about relationships, public radio, or her co-host.

I was really liking this book until about 3/4 of the way through when things unexpectedly turned super steamy and sexual out of nowhere. There was no build up and it made the last bit kind of awkward. The romances in the book were harder to get behind for me, and I just didn't love it as much as I wanted to. A really cute storyline and book, just a few random chapters I didn't appreciate.
