August Book Recap & Recommendations

I can't even believe it is September. This month is kicking off with a bang. I woke up Sunday with a cold and I am still trying to knock it. Cold's are so annoying. We have been preparing all week here in Florida for Hurricane Dorian, and she turned out the be nothing. I am very thankful she didn't touch down here in Florida and am praying for those in the Bahamas.
I am so excited to share what books I read this month because some of my favorites of the year are in this recap. Let's get into it.

The Royal We by: Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
This is the story of Rebecca Porter, an American girl living a fairy tale as she falls in love with the future king of Great Britain while studying at Oxford. She isn't prepared for all that this romance entails and it puts a strain on her friendships and family. She has to question if her love for Nick, the prince, is worth all that the spotlight brings with it.

I listened to this book and although I was impressed by the different voices of the narrator, there were so many characters that it often felt overwhelming. I really loved the beginning of this book but didn't love it after the half way point as much. I do prefer physically reading versus listening to books so I may have enjoyed it more had a been reading it that way.

Nine Women, One Dress by: Jane L. Rosen
This is the tale of a designer dress and the nine women who's lives change while wearing it. This is such a light and fun read. I can honestly say I have never read a book similar to this one. I loved how these women's stories intertwined.

Tell Me Everything by: Cambria Brockman
This is a psychological thriller about a murder in an elite New England college that tears apart a group of friends, one of which is playing a dangerous game. We flash between Freshman year and Senior year, when the murder happened, as we learn about the circumstances surrounding the accident and discovering who is responsible.

This book could at times be considered R rated and because of some of those scenes I couldn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. I will say however, that the way this author writes, and the way this story was told, was captivating. The ending left me utterly shocked and I flew through this intense book.

Everybody, Always by: Bob Goff
This book is told in a series of stories by Bob all about how Christians are called to become love and how that is done. His stories are hilarious and this book was challenging. I feel like every Christian should read this book. He also has a podcast and another book I can't wait to read. I loved everything about this one.

If I Run Series by: Terri Blackstock
Before getting into the book by book breakdown, I just wanted to say these may just be the best books I've read this year or EVER. This series is SUCH an intense thriller series that isn't gory or nasty. I loved this authors writing, the suspense, and the shocking turns each chapter. READ THIS SERIES.

If I Run (#1) by: Terri Blackstock
This first book starts right off with readers learning that Casey Cox is on the run. She has experienced some kind of murder and we are unsure of yet if she is responsible and why she is running. The intensity level stays consistently high throughout this whole book and my mom and I both read it in one sitting.

If I'm Found (#2) by: Terri Blackstock
This book was a little slower than the first but still intense none the less. I can't tell you what this book is about without spoiling the first, but believe me, it is GOOD!

If I Live (#3) by: Terri Blackstock
Again, I can't exactly tell you about this book without spoiling the other two but wow. My mom and I both agreed we read this one the fastest because we were so anxious for some answers. There were a LOT of unexpected twists in this book. I did think, sadly, that a few parts of this last book were slightly cheesy, but other than that, LOVED.

  1. Everybody, Always is probably one of my favorites (next to Love Does!) I could imagine The Royal We being confusing to listen to, I definitely enjoyed it in the paper copy! I've been noticing some of the books I listen to I don't get as much out of as if I were to read a paper copy. Super interesting how that happens!
    Happy almost Friday, girly!
