The Importance of a Daily Devotion

Hi everyone and Happy Monday! I have something new that I will be announcing next Monday but before we kick start a new journey together, I thought I would share the importance of having a devotion/ quiet time with the Lord daily. Next week, I will be announcing a plan/challenge that we can all do together. Something that will beat us all down is the questions we will ask our selves. Questions like "Is this really important?" or "I am already a good person, do I really have to spend my time doing this every day?"

These are all questions that cross our mind and questions that could distract us from seeing the importance of our daily time with God. One thing that you need to know first is there is no such thing as a spiritual plateau. You can't use the excuse "I have just plateaued and my spiritual growth hasn't changed much recently," because there is no such thing. You are either growing closer with the Lord or further from him. If you are not feeling closer to him daily, you are drifting further from him. It is as simple as that.

Weekly Devotions

When can I have my daily devotion?
Any time! I find that having it in the morning works best for me because even if I say I will have it at night, I will often be "too tired" or "too busy". Having it when you first wake up, before you start your day will not only give you the perfect time slot but give you an ease and peace about starting your day.

What do I do?
It is recommended that you spend about a minute praying before you do anything so you can ask God to help you understand what you are about to learn. Then spend about five minutes reading the Bible or a Bible study book (A plan you can follow will be posted next week). Then spend another minute to three minutes in prayer talking to God like you do your best friend. Poor out everything including your happy thoughts, worries, concerns, anything; God is a really good listener!

Tip!
Speaking of listening, don't forget to keep your ears open too. God can have super clear ways of speaking to us but we are often so busy worrying about ourselves or running our mouths that we forget to listen through out the day. After you finish your devotion, take a minute to listen to God and pray that he will help you listen to him through the entire day.

Good Luck!
I will be praying for all of you and that you might find that you kind of like talking to God and spending just a few minutes with him in the morning! Around eight minutes isn't too long right? Keep you eyes peeled for an introduction to the devotion plan I will be starting with you all next week. I am so excited to start this journey with you!

  3. Great post! I really need to make sure I do this everyday. I always say I'm going to do it at night but find myself too tired and falling asleep once I do climb into bed. I can't wait to see your plan next week! I love your blog :)
