Let Go of Your Plans - Weekly Devotion!

Hello everyone and happy Monday :) Today I am starting a new devotion series in the book of Mathew. This is a great book full of lessons so I thought we could work our way through together.

We are going to start in Mathew 1:18-25-

18 Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah[a] happened in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged[b] to Joseph, before they lived together she was discovered to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19 Her husband Joseph, being a righteous man and unwilling to disgrace her, decided to divorce her secretly.
20 After he had thought about it, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” he said, “don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus,[c] because he is the one who will save his people from their sins.”
22 Now all this happened to fulfill what was declared by the Lord through the prophet when he said,
23 “See, a virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name him Immanuel,”[d]
which means, “God with us.” 24 When Joseph got up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary as[e] his wife. 25 He did not have marital relations with[f] her until she had given birth to a son;[g] and he named him Jesus.

I feel this passage is often overlooked but there is a couple great lessons to be learned from this section.
What would have happened if Joseph didn't listen to the angel? He would have ruined Gods plan and the story of Jesus would have been very different. We certainly wouldn't still be talking about him today.

Did you notice how Joseph immediately tried to cure the situation himself with finding a resolution that seemed it wouldn't hurt anybody. We try to do that ourselves sometimes don't we? We often try to figure out easy ways to fix things on our own because we are afraid of what God might actually ask us to do. God ultimately knows more than we could ever know so we should always seek his council; especially in scary situations.

God obviously knew what was best for Joseph because billion of years later we are still talking about him. What lasting impact might we leave on the world if we just listen to Gods plan for us?

Comment below or email me with any thoughts or questions! I will talk to y'all on Wednesday!
