Events of the Bible: Ten Commandments ~Weekly Devotion~

Happy Tuesday :) Sorry I am a day late on this weeks devo... Hope y'all enjoy it all the same!

What we Read This Week:
God gave the Ten Commandments by which he wrote in stone and they were as follows:
1. You shall have no other gods before me
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy
5. Honor your father and your mother
6.You shall not murder
7.You shall not commit adultery
8.You shall not steal
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
10. You shall not covet

Relating it to Your Life:
I could easily say just follow them and be happy and call it a night but I think instead I will go into detail about a few of the commandments and what God means for us when he asks us to follow them.
  • In the 1st and 2nd commandment God makes it quite clear that we should put nothing and no one above him. If you are going to live a joyous life with the Lord, he needs to be the Lord of your life.
  • The 3rd commandment is often overlooked. I myself get in a habit of saying "oh my gosh" way to much. We as Christians need to set a classy example so that we not only show our respect to our God who is holy but also to set a high standard for the way others speak to us about God. We must not use His name in vain, nor should we laugh along approvingly when others do so as well.
  • EEEEK, another one that is overlooked. I know that a lot of people see Sunday as the last day to get things done before another work week rolls around but this is not how God intended it to be. If you can remember back a few devotions in the beginning, God created the last day to rest. Sundays are meant to spend resting and worshipping. I have recently taken this into effect on my life and boy has it been wonderful. I always have a better week when I spend my Sunday at church and then come home and relax with my family, have a nice long devotion and prayer, and take a long nap. This isn't a hard one to follow folks ;)
  • Honor your father and mother. Us teens struggle with this don't we? We might actually have to admit we don't know everything to honor our parents -__-  If God says do it, we should do it. We probably have a lot to learn from our parents. We should also be praying for them daily. They have huge impacts on who we turn out to be.
  • The 6th and 7th commandment are quite blunt. Do not commit murder or adultery. Not literally. Not with your words. Just don't hurt people.
  • Do not steal. I love the ones that are self explanatory.
  • The 9th commandment means to not lie. The thing is girls, is God always knows the truth :/ ... Hopefully that gives you a guilty conscious like it does me!
  • Oh and the tenth... probably the one we could ALL use a little prayer about. The world and society today makes it SOOOOO hard not to want what others have and be jealous. I mean man, half the time I am jelous of people I have never met and know nothing about (probably because she is married to Channing Tatum but that's beside the point..) Pray for contentment girls. Its hard to be fully content and not want more. I am right there with you!

Alright ladies! I will be praying for you as you pray to follow these ten commandments (and it wouldn't hurt if you helped your girl out here with a prayer maybe too)! Remember, these laws were not put here by God to torture us. They were placed here to make us happy and live life to his fullest extent. Talk to you soon ladies!
